NARRATIVE

Narrative merupakan jenis teks yang bertujuan untuk hiburan dengan menyampaikan cerita berdasarkan pengalaman nyata ataupun khayalan.
Struktur Umum Teks

• Orientation ( pengenalan ) : untuk tokoh, waktu dan tempat.
• Complication ( permasalahan ) : pengembangan konflik
• Resolution ( penyelesaian ) : terpecahkannya masalah

Ciri Kebahasaan

• Menggunakan nons dan pronouns tertentu misalnya king, princess, stepsisterss, housework dsb.
• Specific Participant yaitu pelaku yang bersifat tertentu / khusus misalnya cinderella, aladin, joko bodoh
• Adjectives yang berguna untuk membentuk noun phrase, misalnya : beautiful white skinned lady. two crazy man
• Time connectives dan conjuction untuk mengurutkan kejadian / peristiwa, misalnya then, when, suddenly dsb.
• Adverbs dan adverbial phrases untuk menunjukkan lokasi kejadian atau peristiwa, misalnya here, there, at home, in the jungle, very carefully dsb.
• Action verbs dalam bentuk past tense : lived, climbed, drank

kita dapat menemukan teks jenis ini pada dongeng, cerita rakyat, cerpen, novel dsb.
Catatan Penting : Narrative dibagi menjadi beberapa jenis misalnya legend ( legenda ), fable ( kisah dengan tokoh hewan ), myth ( mitos ), folktale ( cerita rakyat ) fairy tale ( cerita dengan latar belakang kerajaan / dunia peri ) dan fabel ( cerita dengan latar belakang hewan )

 CONTOH :

  The Cake and Small Ants

ORIENTATION	The mouse was nibbling the cake left over by some picnickers when cat came over and said the cake was his. The mouse stopped and argued with the cat.      the duck walked past, saw the cake and said “ that’s my cake “ then came along the chicken followed by the lamb. All of them said that the cake belonged to them. while they were quarrelling, an army of ants carried the cake away.
COMPLICATION	“ where my cake ? “ the mouse screamed. “ you took my cake ! “ the mouse said to the cat. The cat turned to the duck and called him a thief. The animals had a big fight over the big cake.
RESOLUTION	In the meantime, the ants had taken the cake to their hiding place and were enjoying the cake. “ yummy ! isn’t this cake a real treat ? “ one ant asked, hearing the question, all of the ants burst out laughing.
